PushPush and New Street Arts introduce... Voice/Movement/Acting Lab Mondays Jan 28 - Mar 17 7:00pm -10:00pm
$15.00 per session or all 8 sessions for $100.00*
This low-cost weekly workout is designed for working actors is open to all theater and film artists.
Focus: Improving voice and movement skills and developing new acting styles essential for creating contemporary, non-traditional work.
Styles will apply to new works by current playwrights - the focus of our new Wednesday night reading series and Portal Theater Project.
This is an affordable opportunity for working actors to get necessary weekly workouts as well as explore their craft. The lab is designed less to teach you how something is done, but more to provide a gym and an environment to explore. The workshop will be led by various professional artists who are core to many of our upcoming opportunities and projects. We will also pass on new information to go in your arsenal of acting style perspectives.
Expect to be challenged!
This workshop is an open-source opportunity. Actors who create scripts, plays, films and other forms of art are also encouraged to attend. Come explore these ideas and connect with fellow artists.
*discounts available. check PushPush website for more details.
2007 was a great year for art in Atlanta. Exploration, collaboration, conversation, and tremendous support keep our community thriving. With all of the great shows and events going on in our city, it's a big statement to say XPT was my favorite of 2007. Check out the opportunity for the 2008 XPT below...
from XPT Coordinator, Michael Haverty: I thought I would let you know of a great opportunity for artists to create experimental work for puppetry.
Puppetry is an art form that combines literature, music, mime, dance and drama with the visual arts. Xperimental Puppetry Theater (XPT) is a forum that offers the opportunity for artists to explore their creative expression within the puppet theater, exploring original puppetry and object theater geared to adult audiences.
You may participate as an individual XPT member (that is, participate in someone else's project), or as an XPT Project Director. Proposed pieces must be under ten minutes, and can be in any of the myriad styles of puppetry: shadow, masks, automata, stop-motion film, marionettes, etc. We also accept INSTALLATION ART that uses elements of puppetry, for display in our lobby during the performance run in May.
We are pleased to offer funding for new works. Project grants up to $400 may be awarded. In addition, performance space, production space and equipment will be provided as available.
The deadline for project proposals is February 7, 2008. As part of the selection process, Project Directors will also be asked to interview with the XPT Coordinator. Applicants will be notified of project application status by February 21, 2008. Then you build and rehearse your piece. The performance dates are May 15-18, 2008.
